[469] Bhikkhus, if a fool is seated in an assembly hall, or seated in a street, or seated at a crossroads, and there the people are discussing talk connected with that matter and appropriate to it; and if, bhikkhus, that fool is one who kills living beings, takes what is not given, engages in sexual misconduct, speaks falsehood, and indulges in liquor, wine, and intoxicants that are a basis for heedlessness — then, bhikkhus, it occurs to that fool thus: 'The talk which these people are discussing, connected with that matter and appropriate to it — those very things are found in me, and I am seen engaging in those things.' This, bhikkhus, is the first kind of suffering (dukkha) and grief that a fool experiences in this very life.
