[472] That fool, bhikkhus, having engaged in misconduct (duccarita) by body, having engaged in misconduct by speech, having engaged in misconduct by mind, with the breakup of the body, after death, is reborn in a state of deprivation (apāya), a bad destination, a place of ruin, hell (niraya). Bhikkhus, if there is anything of which one speaking rightly might say, "It is utterly unwished for, utterly undesirable, utterly disagreeable," it is of hell alone that one speaking rightly might say, "It is utterly unwished for, utterly undesirable, utterly disagreeable." So much so, bhikkhus, that it is not easy even to give a simile for how painful (dukkha) hell is.
