[596] Thus indeed, young man, the way of practice conducive to a short lifespan leads to shortness of life; the way of practice conducive to a long lifespan leads to length of life; the way of practice conducive to much affliction leads to being much afflicted; the way of practice conducive to little affliction leads to being little afflicted; the way of practice conducive to ugliness leads to being ugly; the way of practice conducive to being pleasing in appearance leads to being pleasing in appearance; the way of practice conducive to little influence leads to being of little influence; the way of practice conducive to great influence leads to being of great influence; the way of practice conducive to little wealth leads to having little wealth; the way of practice conducive to great wealth leads to having great wealth; the way of practice conducive to birth in a low family leads to birth in a low family; the way of practice conducive to birth in a high family leads to birth in a high family; the way of practice conducive to weak wisdom leads to being of weak wisdom; the way of practice conducive to great wisdom leads to being of great wisdom.
Young man, beings are owners of their kamma, heirs of their kamma; kamma is their womb, kamma is their kin, kamma is their refuge. Kamma divides beings, that is, into the inferior and the superior.
