[631] "'Therein, relying on this, give up that'—so indeed this was said. And with reference to what was this said?
Herein, bhikkhus, relying on and depending upon those six kinds of happiness (somanassa) based on renunciation (nekkhamma), give up those six kinds of happiness based on the household life (gehasita), transcend them; thus is their abandoning, thus is their transcending. Herein, bhikkhus, relying on and depending upon those six kinds of grief (domanassa) based on renunciation, give up those six kinds of grief based on the household life, transcend them; thus is their abandoning, thus is their transcending. Herein, bhikkhus, relying on and depending upon those six kinds of equanimity (upekkhā) based on renunciation, give up those six kinds of equanimity based on the household life, transcend them; thus is their abandoning, thus is their transcending. Herein, bhikkhus, relying on and depending upon those six kinds of happiness based on renunciation, give up those six kinds of grief based on renunciation, transcend them; thus is their abandoning, thus is their transcending. Herein, bhikkhus, relying on and depending upon those six kinds of equanimity based on renunciation, give up those six kinds of happiness based on renunciation, transcend them; thus is their abandoning, thus is their transcending."
