[656] "'Avoiding these two extremes, the middle way of practice (majjhimā paṭipadā) has been fully awakened to (abhisambuddhā) by the Tathāgata—producing vision, producing knowledge (ñāṇa), leading to peace, to direct knowledge (abhiññā), to full awakening (sambodha), to Nibbāna (nibbāna)': so indeed this was said. And with reference to what was this said? It is just this Noble Eightfold Path (ariya aṭṭhaṅgika magga), namely: right view, right intention, right speech, right action, right livelihood, right effort, right mindfulness (sati), and right concentration (samādhi). 'Avoiding these two extremes, the middle way of practice has been fully awakened to by the Tathāgata—producing vision, producing knowledge, leading to peace, to direct knowledge, to full awakening, to Nibbāna': when this was said, it was with reference to this that it was said."
