[96] "Brahmin, when a bhikkhu guards the doors of the sense faculties (indriya), the Tathāgata trains him further: 'Come, bhikkhu, be moderate in eating. Reflecting wisely, you should take food not for amusement, not for intoxication, not for adornment, not for beautification, but only for the maintenance and sustenance of this body, for the allaying of affliction, and for assisting the holy life (brahmacariya), considering: "Thus I shall terminate the old feeling (vedanā) and shall not arouse a new feeling, and I shall have the means of keeping going, blamelessness, and a comfortable abiding."'"
