[140] [The Blessed One:] "Those who give it out of faith (saddhā), with a clear and confident mind — that very food attends upon them, both in this world and in the next. Therefore, having dispelled stinginess (macchera), let one give a gift (dāna) as one who has vanquished the stain (malābhibhū); merits (puñña) are the support of living beings in the world beyond." # 1.
