[21] Standing to one side, that deity (devatā) addressed the Blessed One in verse: [Siam Raṭṭha page-apparatus: ¹ Sī. (Sinhalese MSS): "mānikāmassa damo idatthi." ² Sī.: "taranti." ³ Sī.: the readings "pārentī ti" and also "paressantī ti" occur. ⁴ M. (Burmese ed.): "vippayutto."] "Of those dwelling in the forest, peaceful ones living the holy life (brahmacārī), eating but a single meal a day — by what does their complexion become serene?"
