Uttarasutta

[273] Setting at Rājagaha. Standing to one side, the young deva (devaputta) Uttara spoke this verse in the presence of the Blessed One: "Life is led onward; short is its span; for one led on by aging (jarā) there are no shelters. Seeing this peril in death (maraṇa), one should perform deeds of merit that bring happiness."
