[338] "So it is, great king! So it is, great king! Whosoever, great king, engage in misconduct (duccarita) by body … their self (attā) is unprotected. For what reason? For this protection, great king, is external (bāhira); this protection is not internal (ajjhattika). Therefore their self is unprotected. But whosoever, great king, engage in good conduct (sucarita) by body, engage in good conduct by speech, and engage in good conduct by mind, their self is protected. Even though no elephant corps should protect them, no cavalry corps should protect them, no chariot corps should protect them, and no infantry corps should protect them, still their self is protected. For what reason? For this protection, great king, is internal; this protection is not external. Therefore their self is protected."
