[350] Then, in the morning, a number of bhikkhus dressed, and taking bowl and robe, entered Sāvatthī for alms. Having walked for alms in Sāvatthī, when they had returned from the alms round after the meal, they approached the Blessed One; having approached, they paid homage to the Blessed One and sat down to one side. Sitting to one side, those bhikkhus said this to the Blessed One: "Here, venerable sir, a great sacrifice (mahāyañña) has been arranged for King Pasenadi of Kosala. Five hundred bulls, five hundred bullocks, five hundred heifers, five hundred goats, and five hundred rams have been led up to the post for the sacrifice (yañña). And those of his who are called 'slaves' or 'servants' or 'workers'—they too, threatened by the rod, threatened by fear, with tearful faces, weeping, perform the preparatory work."
