[358] Then the Blessed One, having understood the significance of this, on that occasion recited these verses:
"Not by complexion and form is a man well born (sujāto);
one should not trust from a moment's sight;
for with the distinguishing marks of the well restrained,
the unrestrained roam this world.
A counterfeit earring made of clay,
a copper half-māsa coated over with gold —
concealed by their retinue they go about in the world,
impure within, resplendent without."
