[445] "Days and nights pass by;
life comes to a halt.
The life-span of mortals wastes away,
like the water of small streams."
Then Māra the Evil One (pāpimā), [realizing] "The Blessed One knows me! The Fortunate One (sugata) knows me!" — sad and dejected, vanished right there.

Tapokamma (Austerity) and Nāga (the Elephant),
Subha (the Beautiful), with Pāsa (the Snare) — those two;
Sappa (the Serpent), Suppati (Sleep), Nandana,
and with Āyu (Life-span) — another two.
