[487] Then the Venerable Samiddhi, having understood, "This is Māra the Evil One (pāpimant)," addressed Māra the Evil One in verse:
"Out of faith (saddhā) I have gone forth
from home into homelessness;
my mindfulness (sati) and wisdom (paññā) are awakened,
and my mind (citta) is well concentrated.
Make whatever forms you please —
you will never make me tremble."
Then Māra the Evil One, realizing, "The bhikkhu Samiddhi knows me," pained and dejected, vanished right there.
