[505] Then Taṇhā, Aratī, and Rāgā, the daughters of Māra, approached Māra the Evil One; and having approached, they addressed Māra the Evil One in verse: "Why are you downcast, dear father? What man is it you sorrow over? We shall bind him with the snare of lust (rāgapāsa), as one binds a forest elephant, and bring him back — he will be under your control."
