[514] Then Taṇhā, Aratī, and Ragā, the daughters of Māra, having withdrawn to one side, said this: "It is true indeed, it seems, what our father said:
'The Arahant, the Fortunate One (sugata) in the world,
is not easily led away by lust (rāga);
he has passed beyond Māra's domain —
therefore I grieve so greatly.'
"For if we had assailed with this assault any ascetic or brahmin not devoid of lust, either his heart would have burst, or hot blood would have gushed from his mouth, or he would have gone mad or fallen into derangement of mind (cittavikkhepa); or else, just as a green reed that has been mown down dries up, withers away, and wilts, even so he would have dried up, withered away, and wilted."
Then Taṇhā, Aratī, and Ragā, the daughters of Māra, approached the Blessed One; having approached, they stood to one side.
