[618] Then, bhikkhus, Sikhī the Blessed One, the Arahant, the Perfectly Enlightened One, and the bhikkhu Abhibhū, having stirred the Brahmā, the Brahmā's assembly, and the attendants of the Brahmā's assembly to a sense of urgency (saṃvejetvā), just as … vanished from that brahmā world and appeared in the royal capital Aruṇavatī.
Then, bhikkhus, Sikhī the Blessed One, the Arahant, the Perfectly Enlightened One, addressed the bhikkhus: "Bhikkhus, did you hear the verses of the bhikkhu Abhibhū as he stood in the brahmā world speaking them?"
"We did hear, venerable sir, the verses of the bhikkhu Abhibhū as he stood in the brahmā world speaking them."
"But in what way, bhikkhus, did you hear the verses of the bhikkhu Abhibhū as he stood in the brahmā world speaking them?"
"In this way, venerable sir, did we hear the verses of the bhikkhu Abhibhū as he stood in the brahmā world speaking them:
'Make a beginning! Strive forth!
Apply yourselves to the Buddha's teaching (buddhasāsana)!
Scatter the army of Death (Maccu)
as an elephant does a house of reeds.
Whoever shall dwell heedful (appamatta)
in this Dhamma and Discipline (dhammavinaya),
having abandoned the round of birth (jātisaṃsāra),
shall make an end of suffering (dukkha).'
It was in this way, venerable sir, that we heard the verses of the bhikkhu Abhibhū as he stood in the brahmā world speaking them."
