Bhikkhakasutta

[717] "One is not a mendicant (bhikkhaka) merely insofar as he begs from others; having taken up a foul practice (vissaṃ dhammaṃ), one is not to that extent a bhikkhu. But whoever here, having washed away both merit (puñña) and evil (pāpa), lives the holy life (brahmacariya), and fares in the world with comprehension (saṅkhāya) — he indeed is called a bhikkhu."
