[764] Then the deity (devatā) that dwelt in that forest thicket, having compassion for that bhikkhu, desiring his good, and wishing to stir that bhikkhu with a sense of urgency (saṃvega), approached that bhikkhu; and having approached, addressed that bhikkhu with verses:
"Rise up, bhikkhu! Why do you sleep? What use is sleeping to you?
For what sleep can there be for you who are afflicted, pierced by the dart, stricken?
The faith (saddhā) by which you went forth from home into homelessness—
cultivate that very faith; do not come under the sway of sleep."
