[784] Then that bhikkhu, having heard the resounding sound of musical instruments being beaten and played in Vesālī, [page apparatus: ¹ In the Burmese edition the word "vajjiputtako" ("the Vajjian") occurs at this point. ² The Burmese and European (PTS) editions and the Commentary read "sabbaratticāro."] lamenting, spoke this verse at that time: "We dwell all alone in the forest, like a log cast away¹ in the woods; on a night such as this, who indeed is worse off than we?"
