[787] Then the deity (devatā) inhabiting that forest thicket, not hearing the Dhamma of that bhikkhu, approached that bhikkhu; and having approached, addressed that bhikkhu in verse: "Why, bhikkhu, do you not recite the passages of the Dhamma (dhammapadāni), while living together with bhikkhus? Having heard the Dhamma, one gains confidence; in this very life one gains praise."
