[823] Then the yakkhinī Punabbasumātā (Punabbasu's mother) soothed her little son thus:
"Be quiet, Uttarikā; be quiet, Punabbasu,
while I listen to the Dhamma of the supreme Buddha, the Teacher.
The Blessed One spoke of Nibbāna, the release from all knots (gantha),
and beyond all measure is my affection for this Dhamma.
Dear in the world is one's own son; dear in the world is one's own husband;
but dearer than these to me is the quest for this Dhamma.
For neither son nor husband, though dear, can release one from suffering (dukkha),
as the hearing of the true Dhamma (saddhamma) frees living beings from suffering.
In this world afflicted by suffering, fettered by aging and death (jarāmaraṇa),
that Dhamma which [the Buddha] fully awakened to for release from aging and death —
that Dhamma I wish to hear. Be quiet, Punabbasu."
