[826] On one occasion the Blessed One was dwelling at Rājagaha in the Sītavana.
Now on that occasion Anāthapiṇḍika the householder (gahapati) had arrived at Rājagaha on some business.
Anāthapiṇḍika the householder heard: "It is said that a Buddha has arisen in the world!" And at that very moment he became desirous of going to see the Blessed One.
Then it occurred to Anāthapiṇḍika the householder: "Today is not the proper time to go to see the Blessed One; tomorrow, then, at the proper time, I shall go to see the Blessed One." He lay down with mindfulness (sati) directed to the Buddha, and during the night he got up three times, supposing that it was daybreak.
Then Anāthapiṇḍika the householder went up to the gate of the charnel ground (sīvathika). Non-human beings (amanussā) opened the gate.
