[862] Bhikkhus, even Sakka, lord of devas — subsisting on the fruit of his own merit (puññaphala), exercising supreme sovereignty and rulership over the Tāvatiṃsa devas — will be one who speaks in praise of initiative and energy (uṭṭhānavīriya). Here indeed, bhikkhus, this would shine forth: that you, who have gone forth in a Dhamma and Discipline (dhammavinaya) so well proclaimed (svākkhāta), should exert yourselves, strive, and endeavor for the attainment of what has not yet been attained, for the achievement of what has not yet been achieved, for the realization of what has not yet been realized.
