[107] "But if, Sāriputta, they should ask you thus: 'Friend Sāriputta, what is the source of birth (jāti), what is its origin, from what is it born, from what is it produced?' — being asked thus, Sāriputta, how would you answer?" "If, venerable sir, they should ask me thus: 'Friend Sāriputta, what is the source of birth, what is its origin, from what is it born, from what is it produced?' — being asked thus, venerable sir, I would answer thus: 'Birth, friend, has existence (bhava) as its source, has existence as its origin, is born from existence, is produced from existence.' Being asked thus, venerable sir, I would answer thus."
