[115] There, not long after the Blessed One had departed, the Venerable Sāriputta addressed the bhikkhus: "Friends, the Blessed One asked me the first question while I was unprepared, not having previously considered it, and so I hesitated over it. But when, friends, the Blessed One approved of my answer to the first question, it occurred to me, friends: 'If the Blessed One were to question me about this matter for a whole day, in various terms and in various ways (pariyāya), for a whole day I could answer the Blessed One about this matter in various terms and in various ways. If the Blessed One were to question me about this matter for a whole night, in various terms and in various ways, for a whole night I could answer the Blessed One about this matter in various terms and in various ways. If the Blessed One were to question me about this matter for a night and a day, in various terms and in various ways, for a night and a day I could answer the Blessed One about this matter in various terms and in various ways.
