[157] What are the five perils and enmities (bhayāni verāni) that have been stilled? Bhikkhus, whatever [peril and enmity] one who destroys life (pāṇātipātī) … Bhikkhus, whatever [peril and enmity] one who takes what is not given (adinnādāyī) … Bhikkhus, whatever [peril and enmity] one who engages in sexual misconduct (kāmesumicchācārī) … Bhikkhus, whatever [peril and enmity] one who speaks falsehood (musāvādī) … Bhikkhus, whatever [peril and enmity] one who indulges in liquor, wine, and intoxicants that are a basis for heedlessness (surāmerayamajjapamādaṭṭhāyī) … These five perils and enmities have been stilled.
