[267] "It is astonishing, friend Sāriputta! It is amazing, friend Sāriputta, how well this has been spoken by the Venerable Sāriputta! And we rejoice in this well-spoken statement of the Venerable Sāriputta on these thirty-six grounds.
"If, friend, a bhikkhu teaches the Dhamma for the purpose of disenchantment (nibbidā) with aging and death, for its fading away (virāga), for its cessation, he is fit to be called 'a bhikkhu who is a speaker of the Dhamma (dhammakathika).' If, friend, a bhikkhu is practicing for the purpose of disenchantment with aging and death, for its fading away, for its cessation, he is fit to be called 'a bhikkhu practicing in accordance with the Dhamma (dhammānudhammapaṭipanna).' If, friend, through disenchantment with aging and death, through its fading away, through its cessation, a bhikkhu is liberated by non-clinging (anupādā vimutto), he is fit to be called 'a bhikkhu who has attained Nibbāna in this very life (diṭṭhadhammanibbānappatta).'
"If, friend, … with birth … with existence (bhava) … with clinging (upādāna) … with craving (taṇhā) … with feeling (vedanā) … with contact (phassa) … with the six sense bases (saḷāyatana) … with name-and-form (nāmarūpa) … with consciousness … with volitional formations … If, friend, a bhikkhu teaches the Dhamma for the purpose of disenchantment with ignorance, for its fading away, for its cessation, he is fit to be called 'a bhikkhu who is a speaker of the Dhamma.' If, friend, a bhikkhu is practicing for the purpose of disenchantment with ignorance, for its fading away, for its cessation, he is fit to be called 'a bhikkhu practicing in accordance with the Dhamma.' If, friend, through disenchantment with ignorance, through its fading away, through its cessation, a bhikkhu is liberated by non-clinging, he is fit to be called 'a bhikkhu who has attained Nibbāna in this very life.'"
