[431] He was dwelling at Sāvatthī. … Then a certain bhikkhu approached the Blessed One … Sitting to one side, that bhikkhu said to the Blessed One: "Venerable sir, how long is an aeon (kappa)?" "Long, bhikkhu, is an aeon. It is not easy to reckon it thus: 'so many years' … or 'so many hundred thousand years.'" "But is it possible, venerable sir, to give a simile?"
