[439] Bhikkhus, just as a stick thrown up into the air sometimes falls on its base, sometimes falls on its middle, and sometimes falls on its tip, even so, bhikkhus, beings hindered by ignorance (avijjā) and fettered by craving (taṇhā), running on and wandering in the round of rebirths (saṃsāra), sometimes go from this world to the other world, and sometimes come from the other world to this world. Why is that? Because, bhikkhus, this saṃsāra is without discoverable beginning … enough to be liberated.
