[57] Dwelling at Sāvatthī. ... "Bhikkhus, for the fool, hindered by ignorance (avijjā) and fettered by craving (taṇhā), this body has thus originated. So there is this body and external name-and-form (nāmarūpa): thus this pair. In dependence on the pair there is contact (phassa). There are just the six sense bases (āyatana), contacted through which — or through a certain one among them — the fool experiences pleasure and pain.
