[638] Then the Venerable Lakkhaṇa and the Venerable Mahāmoggallāna, having walked for alms in Rājagaha and returned from the alms round after their meal, approached the Blessed One; having approached, they paid homage to the Blessed One and sat down to one side. Sitting to one side, the Venerable Lakkhaṇa said this to the Venerable Mahāmoggallāna: "Just now, as the Venerable Mahāmoggallāna was descending from Mount Gijjhakūṭa, he displayed a smile at a certain spot. What now, friend Moggallāna, is the cause, what is the condition, for the displaying of that smile?"
