[67] "Therefore, bhikkhus, arouse energy (vīriya) for the attainment of what has not been attained, for the achievement of what has not been achieved, for the realization of what has not been realized, thinking: 'In this way this going forth (pabbajjā) of ours will not have been in vain, will not be barren, but fruitful and productive; and when we use the robes, almsfood, lodgings, and medicinal requisites for the sick [of others], these services of theirs toward us will be of great fruit, of great benefit.' Thus, bhikkhus, should you train yourselves. For, bhikkhus, one considering his own good should suffice to strive to accomplish it with diligence (appamāda); or, bhikkhus, one considering the good of others should suffice to strive to accomplish it with diligence; or, bhikkhus, one considering the good of both should suffice to strive to accomplish it with diligence." The second [sutta].
