[683] Dwelling at Sāvatthī ... "Bhikkhus, did you hear a jackal (sigāla) howling in the night, at the time near dawn?" "Yes, venerable sir." "Bhikkhus, that old jackal is afflicted with a disease called ukkaṇṇaka (mange). Yet it goes wherever it wishes; it stands wherever it wishes; it sits wherever it wishes; it lies down wherever it wishes; and even a cool wind blows upon it."
