[106] At Sāvatthī. There indeed… "Bhikkhus, there are these five kinds of seeds. What five? Root-seeds, stem-seeds, joint-seeds (phaḷubīja), cutting-seeds, and seed-seeds as the fifth. Bhikkhus, suppose these five kinds of seeds were unbroken, unspoiled, undamaged by wind and sun, fertile, well stored, but there were no earth and no water. Could these five kinds of seeds, bhikkhus, attain growth, increase, and maturity?"
"No, venerable sir."
"Bhikkhus, suppose these five kinds of seeds were unbroken … well stored, and there were earth and there were water. Could these five kinds of seeds, bhikkhus, attain growth, increase, and maturity?"
"Yes, venerable sir."
