[16] And how, householder (gahapati), is one become intimate in the village? Here, householder, someone dwells in close association with laypeople — rejoicing along with them, sorrowing along with them, happy when they are happy, pained when they are in pain; and when tasks and duties arise for them, he personally involves himself in those affairs. It is in this way, householder, that one is become intimate in the village.
