[224] "Suppose, Assaji, an oil lamp were burning in dependence on oil and in dependence on a wick; with the exhaustion of that very oil and wick, being without fuel, it would be extinguished. In the same way, Assaji, a bhikkhu, when feeling a feeling (vedanā) terminating with the body, understands: 'I feel a feeling terminating with the body'; when feeling a feeling terminating with life, he understands: 'I feel a feeling terminating with life.' He understands: 'With the breakup of the body, following the exhaustion of life, right here all that is felt, not being delighted in, will become cool.'"
