[534] At Sāvatthī. Sitting to one side, that bhikkhu said to the Blessed One: "Venerable sir, what is the cause, what is the condition, whereby someone here, with the breakup of the body, after death, is reborn in the company of the egg-born supaṇṇas (aṇḍajā supaṇṇā)?"
"Here, bhikkhu, someone acts in a twofold way (dvayakārī) by body, acts in a twofold way by speech, acts in a twofold way by mind. He has heard: 'The egg-born supaṇṇas are long-lived, beautiful, and abound in happiness.' It occurs to him: 'Oh, that with the breakup of the body, after death, I might be reborn in the company of the egg-born supaṇṇas!' He gives food, he gives drink, he gives clothing, he gives a vehicle, he gives garlands, he gives fragrances, he gives unguents, he gives bedding, he gives dwellings, he gives lamps. With the breakup of the body, after death, he is reborn in the company of the egg-born supaṇṇas. This, bhikkhu, is the cause, this is the condition, whereby someone here, with the breakup of the body, after death, is reborn in the company of the egg-born supaṇṇas."
