[106] "Let the venerable Channa keep himself going! We wish for the venerable Channa to keep himself going. If the venerable Channa has no suitable food, I will search out suitable food for the venerable Channa. If the venerable Channa has no suitable medicines, I will search out suitable medicines for the venerable Channa. If the venerable Channa has no proper attendants, I will attend upon the venerable Channa myself. Let the venerable Channa not take the knife! Let the venerable Channa keep himself going! We wish for the venerable Channa to keep himself going."
"Friend Sāriputta, it is not that I have no suitable food; I have suitable food. Nor is it that I have no suitable medicines; I have suitable medicines. Nor is it that I have no proper attendants; I have proper attendants. Moreover, friend, the Teacher has long been served by me in an agreeable manner only, not in a disagreeable manner; for this, friend, is proper for a disciple: that he should serve the Teacher in an agreeable manner only, not in a disagreeable manner. 'Blamelessly will the bhikkhu Channa take the knife' — thus, friend Sāriputta, should you remember it."
