[131] Then the Venerable Mālukyaputta, ardent (ātāpī) and resolute, approached the Blessed One … Sitting to one side, the Venerable Mālukyaputta said this to the Blessed One: "It would be good, venerable sir, if the Blessed One would teach me the Dhamma in brief, so that, having heard the Dhamma from the Blessed One, I might dwell alone, withdrawn, heedful, ardent, and resolute."
"Here now, Mālukyaputta, what shall I say to the young bhikkhus, when you—worn with age, old, elderly, far gone in years, arrived at the last stage of life—ask for an exhortation in brief?"
