[159] Bhikkhus, I will teach the things subject to the fetter (saññojaniyā dhammā) and the fetter (saññojana). Listen to that. And what, bhikkhus, are the things subject to the fetter, and what is the fetter? The eye, bhikkhus, is a thing subject to the fetter; the desire and lust (chandarāga) that arises there in dependence on it—that is the fetter there. … The tongue is a thing subject to the fetter. … The mind (mano) is a thing subject to the fetter; the desire and lust that arises there in dependence on it—that is the fetter there. These, bhikkhus, are called the things subject to the fetter, and this the fetter.
