[201] On one occasion the Venerable Mahākaccāna was dwelling among the Avantīs, in a family's house on Saṃpavatta Mountain. Then the householder Hāliddakāni approached the Venerable Mahākaccāna … Sitting to one side, the householder Hāliddakāni said to the Venerable Mahākaccāna: "Venerable sir, this was said by the Blessed One: 'In dependence on the diversity of elements (dhātu) there arises the diversity of contacts (phassa); in dependence on the diversity of contacts there arises the diversity of feelings (vedanā).' How is it, venerable sir, that in dependence on the diversity of elements there arises the diversity of contacts, and in dependence on the diversity of contacts there arises the diversity of feelings?"
