[343] Bhikkhus, should there arise in any bhikkhu or bhikkhunī desire (chanda), or lust (rāga), or hatred, or delusion, or even repugnance (paṭigha) of mind regarding forms cognizable by the eye, one should restrain the mind (citta) from that, [reflecting]: "This path is perilous, fraught with danger, thorny, entangled, a wrong way, a bad path, beset with hardship; this path is frequented by bad persons (asappurisa), this path is not frequented by good persons (sappurisa); this does not befit you." One should restrain the mind from that — from forms cognizable by the eye. …
