[349] "And how, Bhikkhus, is there restraint (saṃvara)? Here, Bhikkhus, a bhikkhu, having seen a form (rūpa) with the eye, is not drawn to an agreeable form and is not repelled by a disagreeable form. He dwells with mindfulness directed to the body established (upaṭṭhitakāyasati), with a measureless mind (citta, appamāṇacetaso), and he understands as it really is (yathābhūta) that liberation of mind (cetovimutti) and liberation by wisdom (paññāvimutti) wherein those arisen evil, unwholesome dhammas cease without remainder. Having heard a sound with the ear … Having smelled an odor with the nose … Having tasted a flavor with the tongue … Having touched a tangible with the body … Having cognized a mental phenomenon (dhamma) with the mind, he is not drawn to an agreeable mental phenomenon and is not repelled by a disagreeable mental phenomenon. He dwells with mindfulness directed to the body established, with a measureless mind, and he understands as it really is that liberation of mind and liberation by wisdom wherein those arisen evil, unwholesome dhammas cease without remainder."
