[384] And how, bhikkhus, is a bhikkhu clearly comprehending (sampajāno)? Here, bhikkhus, a bhikkhu is one who acts with clear comprehension when going forward and returning … when speaking and keeping silent, he is one who acts with clear comprehension. It is in this way, bhikkhus, that a bhikkhu is clearly comprehending. Mindful (sato), bhikkhus, and clearly comprehending, a bhikkhu should await his time. This is our instruction to you.
