[501] "'One who has attained consolation (assāsa), one who has attained consolation,' friend Sāriputta, it is said. In what way, friend Sāriputta, is one who has attained consolation?"
"When, friend, a bhikkhu understands as it really is the origin and the passing away, the gratification, the danger, and the escape in regard to the six bases for contact (phassāyatana), in that way, friend, he is one who has attained consolation."
"But is there, friend, a path, is there a way of practice for the realization of that consolation?"
"There is, friend, a path, there is a way of practice for the realization of that consolation."
"And what, friend, is the path, what is the way of practice for the realization of that consolation?"
"It is just this Noble Eightfold Path for the realization of that consolation; that is: right view … right concentration (samādhi). This, friend, is the path, this is the way of practice for the realization of that consolation."
"Excellent, friend, is the path, excellent the way of practice for the realization of that consolation—and it is enough, friend Sāriputta, for diligence."
