[510] "Friend Sāriputta, it is said: 'suffering, suffering.' What now, friend, is suffering (dukkha)?" "There are, friend, these three kinds of suffering (dukkhatā): suffering as pain (dukkhadukkhatā), suffering due to formations (saṅkhāradukkhatā), and suffering due to change (vipariṇāmadukkhatā). These, friend, are the three kinds of suffering." "But is there, friend, a path (magga), is there a way of practice (paṭipadā), for the full understanding of these kinds of suffering?" "There is, friend, a path, there is a way of practice, for the full understanding of these kinds of suffering." "But what, friend, is the path, what is the way of practice, for the full understanding of these kinds of suffering?" "It is just this Noble Eightfold Path, friend, for the full understanding of these kinds of suffering; that is: right view … right concentration (samādhi). This, friend, is the path, this is the way of practice, for the full understanding of these kinds of suffering." "Excellent, friend, is the path, excellent is the way of practice, for the full understanding of these kinds of suffering; and it is enough, friend Sāriputta, for diligence."
