[530] Then Sakka, lord of devas (devānam inda), together with five hundred devatās, approached the Venerable Mahāmoggallāna; having approached … As Sakka, lord of devas, stood to one side, the Venerable Mahāmoggallāna said this to him:
"Good, lord of devas, is the going for refuge to the Buddha (buddhasaraṇagamana). Because of going for refuge to the Buddha, lord of devas, some beings here, with the breakup of the body, after death, are reborn in a good destination (sugati), a heavenly world. They surpass the other devas in ten respects (dasahi ṭhānehi): in divine life span, divine beauty, divine happiness, divine fame, divine sovereignty, and in divine forms, divine sounds, divine odors, divine tastes, and divine tangibles.
"Good, lord of devas, is the going for refuge to the Dhamma (dhammasaraṇagamana). Because of going for refuge to the Dhamma, lord of devas, some beings here, with the breakup of the body, after death, are reborn in a good destination, a heavenly world. They surpass the other devas in ten respects: in divine life span, divine beauty, divine happiness, divine fame, divine sovereignty, and in divine forms, divine sounds, divine odors, divine tastes, and divine tangibles.
