[544] Now on that occasion the Venerable Isidatta was the most junior of all in that Saṅgha of bhikkhus. Then the Venerable Isidatta said this to the venerable elder: "Venerable elder, I will answer this question of Citta the householder."
"Answer this question of Citta the householder, Isidatta."
"Householder, is it thus that you ask: 'Venerable elder, it is said, "diversity of elements, diversity of elements." In what way, venerable sir, has the diversity of elements (dhātu) been spoken of by the Blessed One?'"
"Yes, venerable sir."
"This, householder, is the diversity of elements spoken of by the Blessed One: the eye element, the form element, the eye-consciousness element … the mind element, the dhamma element, the mind-consciousness element. It is to this extent, householder, that the diversity of elements has been spoken of by the Blessed One."
