[600] "What do you think, headman? Suppose there were a person here who abstains from the destruction of life, abstains from taking what is not given, abstains from misconduct in sensual pleasures, abstains from false speech, abstains from divisive speech, abstains from harsh speech, abstains from idle chatter, who is without covetousness, whose mind (citta) is without ill will, and who holds right view. Then a great crowd of people, having gathered and assembled, would pray to him, extol him, and circumambulate him with hands joined in reverence, saying: 'May this person, with the breakup of the body, after death, be reborn in the plane of misery, the bad destination, the lower realm, hell!' What do you think, headman? Would that person, because of the prayers of the great crowd of people, or because of their extolling, or because of their circumambulating him with hands joined in reverence, with the breakup of the body, after death, be reborn in the plane of misery, the bad destination, the lower realm, hell?"
